The problem I see isn't that people will buy victory. The problem I see is that eventually MT will undermine every non-combat aspect of the game. What happens when CCP does MT right and releases better ammo for Aur? Said ammo to be attractive to MT users needs to be better than player made ammo it also needs to be economical enough for people to be willing to buy it. Once that happens say goodbye to the whole production chain plus LP conversion income stream because there will be no market for that product anymore.
The same applies to any other item released through the NEX so you can pretty much kiss industry as a play style goodbye, Oh and logistics? Ha won't matter that jump bridges got nerfed since all one has to do is whip out the credit card and buy everything you need in your 0.0 station.
Plex for isk doesn't bypass existing game mechanics it does not result in anything poofing instantly into existence.
Also one guy in an full officer fit BS isn't a problem but a 100 man fleet? well that's a completely different matter.
Oh yeah and if you think it's supercaps online now? wait until all it takes to create a Super cap pilot is a CC, as it is now when someone buys one from the Bazaar they aren't making one out of nothing someone had to spend the time and level that character up. Make SP purchasable and you've got instant perfectly skilled pilots. I'm training a cap pilot right now this character is already 2 years old and is still looking at 6 months to be able to fly a cap and another year to be near perfectly skilled. So you'd be bypassing 3 years worth of effort.
Really, I thought you of all people would be smart enough to see the difference.

Both options require the direct input of the EVE economy and industrial system.
The capability to do this doesn't even exist at this point. But the capability to just poof it out of thin air does.
Here's the deal, for the MT model to be a real revenue generator it has to offer a tangible benefit to the purchaser and the price has to be low enough that people are willing to pay for that tangible benefit.
$60 monocles will not be the norm not if they want to actually make back their investment in developing the NEX feature, They will have to use higher volume lower price items. If they go to things that actually affect the game, well at that point this rule applies even more strongly.
We're talking about people who can't figure out how to balance 4 races and 5 weapon systems you think they'll be any better in their implementation of MT?
The basic reality is that the bean counters are going to push revenue generation over game balance and end user experience. That's just the way the idiots with MBA's think these are the same people who changed Dell computer from having a reputation of excellent customer service and one of the best technical support departments on the planet to a laughing stock that people dread having to call. The bean counters pushed sales on the techs which ****ed off and ran off the best technicians then when that didn't get them enough money they insisted on outsourcing those services to people who had no investment in the success of the company. I told every one of my supervisors including the department director that this is exactly what would happen before I left back in 98 and you know what? My predictions were 100% correct.
In all honestly even vanity items is a step too far down the path. Because now that temptation is there, every time the senior execs have a meeting to discuss the need to increase revenue the finance guys are going to point at that system and say "we are sitting on a gold mine there I think it's time we start prospecting" not because they aren't making enough money off the product but because they want more and their confirmation bias will keep them from recognizing the potential downside.
This is just basic human nature, the greed will keep them pushing just a little further and a little further. It's the same reason why gamblers always end up broke and Casino's can afford to build artificial canals in the middle of a desert.
Hilmar's email showcased that personality trait, that they always want to push it a little further the next flop on the river will give them the win. These people never understood the old investing saw that Bears make money, Bulls make money, but Pigs get slaughtered.
This is pure evidence of confirmation bias at work, The decision makers at CCP so want this to be successful that they are ignoring every bit of evidence that it won't they are ignoring the basic reality that they've already lost half a million plus in yearly revenue and that the bleeding has only started. Once things stabilize they'll convince themselves that the remaining customers are ok with MT for power items and they'll go the next step and convince themselves that things will settle down again and this will continue until they've run off their reliable player base and their new player base will abandon them the moment something new and shinier comes out.
CCP has been very fortunate in having a system and a community that has a very low demand for new content. Switch to MT and that goes away because they'll have to keep coming out with new stuff to keep people pulling out their credit cards to buy aurum. They are basically running off a very easy to support player base that does 90% of their work for the ADHD kiddoes who are constantly chasing the latest thing.

Honestly I think CCP should probably pick up a copy of "The Lorax" because they seem to have missed it's lesson at some point in their lives.
